“Good For A Player To Feel The Confidence” – Spurs Star Reflects On 2018/19

|

There’s no denying that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko had a fantastic 2018/19 campaign at the club.

Following his big money £30million arrival from Newcastle United back at the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign, the 29-year-old has definitely had a tough time of things at White Hart Lane but last season his efforts in the shirt more than won over his doubters – and many felt he should’ve been our Player of the Year, although he did pick up the inaugural Legends’ Player of the Season gong.

With the 2019/20 campaign nearing and players already slowly beginning to build themselves and their fitness levels back up as attentions turn towards pre-season training, Sissoko was speaking to the Official Site this week and having been a key player for us last term, he again reflected on a good year and spoke about the importance of ‘confidence’ to his own game.

“It’s down to confidence. As a player, when you have a lot of confidence, you can do everything. Of course, when I came to the Club, my first two seasons weren’t easy, for different reasons. I didn’t give up. This season, I wanted to do well. I pushed myself very hard. I had the chance to play a few games in a row and because we were winning, my confidence was going up and that’s why I’ve had a good season. It’s the most confident I’ve been in my career. I can say I was consistent during the season. It’s not easy but I worked so hard for it and I’m happy with what I’ve done.”

He added.

“I’m very happy and proud. That means the fans like what I’m doing and like me as a player and a person. They know me well. I’ve always tried to give my best for the team, even when it wasn’t easy, always tried to focus on my job and help everyone. I’m doing well now and they are very happy for me. It’s good for a player to feel the confidence of the players, the coaching staff and the fans.”

Fans will certainly be hoping he can start where he left off when football returns as he proved himself key in a number of games last year and the aim will be further improvement once again as we hopefully look to close that gap at the very top by a bit more.
